Specialty Handwoven Telas
We are excited to introduce this limited collection of telas. While all of the telas featured on our shop require exceptional precision and care to produce, these are especially unique because of the traditional process by which they are made. The cotton is grown by the families, then handspun and woven by the artists themselves.
Like many indigenous traditions, this process is becoming more of a rarity for a number of reasons. The intensive time and effort required to produce the telas in this manner, along with the difficulty of transporting them to markets and lack of fair compensation, has resulted in fewer women following these traditional practices, and less young girls learning the trade. We hope to encourage the continuation of this extraordinary Shipibo custom, and invite you to join us in creating a market for these women!
